Sabrina, who, on her 16th birthday, will have to choose “between two worlds: the witch world of her family and the human world of her friends.” Sabrina, whose father was a powerful Satanic priest and whose mother was a mortal, is expected to pledge allegiance to the Dark Lord, Lucifer himself, and renounce her human ties. In return, she gets unfathomable power—for total fealty. Will she be able to leave the mortal world behind?
Creator: Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa
Cast: Kiernan Shipka, Ross Lynch, Lucy Davis, Miranda Otto, Gavin Leatherwood
Where to Watch It: Netflix
Review: CAOS is a surprisingly complex interrogation of power, aware both of the necessity of women claiming it and of the consequences that usually follow when that power is used for revenge. You’re gonna be on Sabrina’s side. Shipka is great here: The startling promise she showed on Mad Men has matured into bona fide acting chops. CAOS does enough to prove that reboots – in the right hands – can pay service to the original while paving their own way.
Verdict: Worth the Popcorn
