I went into the theatre thinking that I was going to see the best movie I’ve ever seen in my life. The hype surrounding this movie was unmatched. If it weren’t for one critic they would have had a 100% certified score on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, it is among the best I’ve seen but it’s not that mind blowing.
What I liked about it was the plot that was so farfetched but not enough to become ridiculous. Although, it’s qualified as a horror picture, there are literally no horror elements in the movie. It plays much more as a thriller where the audience is kept at the edge of their seats waiting to see what is going to happen to Chris. Another element that makes the movie a success is the comedic presence of Chris’s best friend Rod. His comments are those of every horror movie watcher: If you think something is wrong and that you might be in danger don’t just stick there, GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE. Especially, if your girlfriend’s mom hypnotizes you against your will. I think I would have enjoyed the movie even more if I didn’t have such high expectations. Get Out does deliver but it is not the best movie ever made.
